Empowering Small-Scale Farmers: Tackling Climate Change and Boosting Food Security

Small-scale farmers are the backbone of our food systems, yet they face numerous challenges that threaten their livelihoods and food security. Climate change is at the top of the list, with unpredictable weather patterns, prolonged droughts, and floods disrupting agricultural production. At Accountability Institute (AI), we believe that empowering these farmers is key to overcoming these hurdles.

Through partnerships like our collaboration with GIZ, we’ve conducted in-depth training and research in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Siaya counties. This allowed us to uncover the root causes of low agricultural productivity and implement tailored solutions for small-scale farmers. From adopting climate-smart farming techniques to encouraging afforestation and promoting green energy, we are driving change in the agriculture sector.

But the fight doesn’t stop here. Sustainable food security requires ongoing support, education, and collaboration. By working hand-in-hand with farmers, communities, and stakeholders, AI is paving the way for a future where small-scale farmers thrive despite the challenges of climate change.
